290 million   Across Africa, 290 million long-lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINS) have been delivered since 2008.

Millennium Development Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Target 6C: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

New and more effective tools to fight malaria have been developed during the past decade, including long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and artemisinin combination therapies (ACTs). Approximately 290 million LLINs have been delivered to African countries since 2008, satisfying nearly 80 per cent of reported need across the continent.

Reduction of bottlenecks in the production, procurement and distribution of these interventions has also contributed greatly to achieving great results. Together, these activities have led to significant increases in coverage with insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and many other key malaria control interventions are also now beginning to reach the people most in need.
